August already?
August 5, 2008
Time keeps flying by, and I just looked at the little date and time thing on the bottom corner of my monitor to discover that it's August 5th already, and I haven't posted anything here since last month!
So it's about time for an update. I've been working on developing a website for the mission in Prince George, something that's aimed not so much at people who are already members of the church, as this site is, but a site to point local people to, with articles and audio files created especially for people who are not believers and not members of Christ's body. As soon as I have that site set up a little more fully, I'll post the link here for you all to check out. And if you have any comments or suggestions as to what to include, what to add, and how to promote a website of that sort, I'd love to hear from you.
So stay tuned!
We enjoyed another great Sunday to start the week. For the second week in a row we had a full house, with two families from Smithers joining us for worship. In the afternoon we did some exploring in the neighbourhood, and enjoyed a beautiful walk in Moore's Meadow, a large park a few blocks away from our home. Moore's Meadow is what's known as a "glacial kettle" - a semi-circular valley gouged out by a glacier, and it's a beautiful place for a walk. Once you get into the park, it's hard to believe that you're surrounded by subdivisions - it seems more like you're out in the woods a million miles from anywhere.
So chalk up another positive for Prince George! As we get to know the city better, we're discovering that it has a whole lot more to offer than we originally thought when we first moved here.

So, if you're looking for new opportunities, a new place to send down roots, a vibrant and active community in which to raise a family, a small but vital church community, low real estate prices, and many economic opportunities, come to Prince George! We would love to welcome you!

Very convincing :) I really looked forward to going to Prince George when we lived in Babine. Aaaah...civilization and it is not in the sticks like some peope think. LOL But one big thing you forgot to mention is that Prince George has a pretty good university. So those young people who go to university all the way in the Fraser Valley may look at the university there closer to home and probably cheaper rent. :) Although we in Langley love having quite a number of young people from Houston and Smithers in our church, their families may love having their bigger kids closer to home.

Me? I'm convinced. Sherri? That will take a lot more effort on your part!

We weren't the only ones who liked to make a little trek out to P.G. The phrase "We're going to Prince" (said sing-songish) still rings in my ears. Good memories.

Wow, that didn't take a whole lot of convincing! Excellent! That's two and a half positive replies. Maybe it would help if I told you about the weather - it's 30 degrees today, with no humidity. And it cools off at night. That should make the sell even easier!

Hmmm ... It's tempting, considering that it's cool and rainy in Hamilton this summer.

You forgot to mention the lovely aromas that often waft over this fine city. :-)

Wes, you make a fine point. But I didn't forget. I deliberately didn't mention it. That's advertising for ya! :-) But yes, this place does really reek from time to time. We go through scented candles like it's nobody's business. But they tell us you get used to it. So we're trying!
